New 1-year English language pre-PhD course (MSc in Cardiovascular Research) University of Freiburg, Germany
1-year, English-language Master’s programme in Medical Sciences – Cardiovascular Research at the University of Freiburg.
The programme brings together graduates from a broad range of backgrounds, focussing on STEM subjects, who are interested in subsequently pursuing PhD research in the cardiovascular field. In a small-group learning environment (class size currently up to 6 students), they get a truly comprehensive introduction to theory and practice of heart and vessel structure and function, and to hands-on research approaches (>700 contact hours with senior academic staff in the first term). In the second term, students conduct a 6 months MSc research project – which they can base at any suitable lab worldwide, so that they will hit the ground running when embarking on their PhD work.
Candidates must have at least four years of higher education (four-year BSc hons with 240 ECTS, or MSc) to enrol.
The application window is 1-31 March 2026. The selection process is highly individual, and structured into 3 stages. Successful candidates can subsequently apply for a stipend (EUR 1k p.m. plus fees) via the Neue Universitätsstiftung charitable foundation.
